Quantitative
Numerical Fit Factor Testing
Quantitative testing delivers an actual numerical fit factor; a direct measurement of how well the respirator seals against the wearer’s face. Its greater sensitivity makes it far more reliable at detecting leaks that qualitative methods miss.
Rather than a simple pass or fail, each result is a verified number that can be documented, audited, and compared across tests over time.
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 requires quantitative testing for all Full-Face Respirators.

Measures ambient particles as an indirect measure of respirator fit; fast, reliable, and OSHA-recognized.
Qualitative
Sensory Detection Pass/Fail Testing
Qualitative testing is a pass/fail protocol in which the wearer performs a series of exercises while wearing the respirator and reports whether they can detect a test agent. It is accepted by OSHA for half-face respirators and certain N95 applications.
We use Bitrex®, a modern testing agent that is highly detectable at very low concentrations, significantly less irritating than older agents like saccharin or banana oil, and safer for workers with sensitivities.
Qualitative testing is OSHA-approved for half-face respirators and N95s. Full-face respirators require quantitative testing.
